Treatment of Menopause: Prescribe with Confidence, Backed by the Evidence.

CE Course series: 3 CE credits

Set the record straight on hormone therapy and close the most overlooked treatment gap in midlife women’s health: GSM.

Course available for $525

What makes us different

Course Highlights

Untangle decades of hormone therapy (HT) confusion with the current evidence and The Menopause Society’s 2022 Position Statement.

Close the GSM treatment gap: a chronic, progressive condition left untreated in the vast majority of women who have it.

Learn to identify optimal HT candidates using validated breast cancer and cardiovascular risk-assessment tools.

Walk away with evidence-based, culturally-informed language for starting HT and GSM conversations with patients.

Course Description

Treatment of Menopause covers the two most consequential — and most misunderstood — areas of menopause care: hormone therapy (HT) and genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). More than two decades after the Women’s Health Initiative study upended HT prescribing, misconceptions still shape clinical decisions, even though later data clarified the study’s major limitations. Meanwhile, GSM goes untreated in most women who have it, despite being chronic and unlikely to improve on its own. This course equips you to close both gaps with confidence.

For hormone therapy, you’ll get the current evidence base — including The Menopause Society’s 2022 Position Statement — and how to apply breast cancer and cardiovascular risk-assessment tools to identify optimal candidates. For GSM, you’ll get a full clinical framework: recognizing the hypoestrogenic changes behind it, validated screening tools, and hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options you can implement into practice immediately.

Learning objectives

After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply current evidence and clinical guideline recommendations to determine appropriate candidates for menopause hormone therapy through individualized risk-benefit assessment.
  2. Evaluate hormonal and nonhormonal treatment options for menopause symptoms and genitourinary syndrome of menopause based on patient characteristics, preferences, and clinical presentation.
  3. Incorporate evidence-based approaches to screening, diagnosis, monitoring, and long-term management of women receiving menopause treatment.
  4. Utilize shared decision-making and patient-centered counseling to support informed treatment selection, improve symptom management, and optimize long-term health outcomes.

This enduring educational activity consists of self-paced online modules designed to provide healthcare professionals with evidence-based education on the treatment of menopause, including hormone therapy and the diagnosis and management of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Learners will progress through a structured curriculum that combines didactic instruction, interactive knowledge assessments, and clinical case-based learning to strengthen competence in individualized menopause management. Content is delivered through recorded educational modules, detailed PDF written material & tables, interactive learning activities, embedded quizzes, and clinical case scenarios. The self-paced format enables learners to complete the curriculum at their convenience while reinforcing knowledge through module-based assessments and clinical application exercises. To claim credit, participants must complete all required educational modules, complete the associated assessments, and submit the post-activity evaluation. Throughout the activity, learners will strengthen their ability to apply current evidence, individualize treatment decisions, and deliver patient-centered menopause care that improves symptom management, quality of life, and long-term health outcomes.

Menopause affects millions of women each year, yet many healthcare professionals report limited confidence in evaluating candidates for hormone therapy and managing common menopause-related conditions such as genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Although substantial evidence has emerged over the past two decades, persistent misconceptions regarding the risks and benefits of hormone therapy—particularly following the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) publication—continue to influence clinical decision-making. Updated guidance from professional societies and evolving regulatory recommendations have clarified many of these issues, creating an ongoing need for education that reflects current evidence. Observable practice gaps include inappropriate avoidance of hormone therapy because of outdated risk perceptions, inconsistent cardiovascular and breast cancer risk assessment, limited familiarity with contemporary hormone formulations and routes of administration, inadequate screening for GSM, and underutilization of effective hormonal and nonhormonal treatment options. Because GSM symptoms are frequently underreported by patients and not routinely assessed by clinicians, many women experience persistent symptoms that negatively affect quality of life and sexual health.

This activity is suitable for Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physician Assistants, and other licensed healthcare professionals.
It is particularly relevant for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, pharmacists, and other licensed clinicians practicing in primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology, women’s health, and related specialties who provide care for women during the menopause transition.
