Course Description

More than 50 million U.S. women are navigating the menopause transition, yet roughly 80% of those with symptoms receive no treatment, and the average OB/GYN residency devotes fewer than five hours to menopause education. Most clinicians enter practice without the comprehensive education and practical framework needed to effectively care for patients through this stage of life.

The Menopause Education Series by EncorVita Academy was developed to help address this gap in menopause education through a comprehensive curriculum that combines foundational knowledge, clinical guidance, expert insights, and practical resources. From this broader curriculum, the Menopause CE Course Bundle brings together three distinct courses and 10 key modules, focusing on the core knowledge and clinical skills essential to menopause care.

Presented in the order they were designed to be taken, the courses provide a concise foundation for building confidence in practice. You will begin by learning the physiology of menopause and developing the skills to recognize symptoms and make appropriate diagnoses. Then, you will move into treatment: the current evidence on hormone therapy (HT), identifying the appropriate candidates for treatment with HT, choosing systemic or localized therapy, and assessing and managing genitourinary syndrome of menopause. The series closes with the long-term implications your patients will ask about for decades: bone density loss, hair changes, and skin health, including DXA and FRAX® interpretation and an honest evaluation of product claims.

Every course is self-paced, anchored in current clinical guidelines, including The Menopause Society’s guidance, and supported by high-quality, peer-reviewed research.

Learning objectives

After completing this series, learners will be able to

  1. Describe the physiology of the menopausal transition and recognize symptom burden using validated screening tools, including the Greene Climacteric Scale and the Female Sexual Function Index.
  2. Assess, diagnose, and monitor patients across the menopause continuum, including differential diagnosis and follow-up planning.
  3. Apply current evidence on menopausal hormone therapy to identify appropriate candidates and select systemic or localized therapy.
  4. Recognize, assess, and treat genitourinary syndrome of menopause using hormonal and non-hormonal options.
  5. Evaluate bone health after menopause, including DXA and FRAX® interpretation and screening for secondary causes of bone loss.
  6. Differentiate menopausal hair and skin presentations and weigh treatment options against the evidence rather than marketing claims.

CE course Bundle Overview

A focused selection of core menopause education from the EncorVita Academy curriculum, brought together in one CE bundle

The clinical grounding the whole series builds on. Covers the physiology of the menopausal transition from perimenopause through postmenopause, how declining estrogen and progesterone drive the symptom picture, and how to recognize symptom burden across vasomotor, mood, sleep, and cognitive domains, along with the long-term health implications of estrogen decline.

Puts the foundations to work in the exam room. Clinical assessment and differential diagnosis across the menopause continuum, using validated screening tools including the Greene Climacteric Scale and the Female Sexual Function Index, an orientation to treatment options, and monitoring and follow-up planning, taught through case-based scenarios.

The evidence base for menopausal hormone therapy, grounded in The Menopause Society’s 2022 Position Statement. Separates current evidence from the persistent misconceptions about HT risk that trace back to early interpretations of the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative study, and covers the benefit and risk profile of systemic and localized therapy.

From evidence to prescribing. Identifying appropriate HT candidates using evidence-based risk assessment, choosing between systemic and localized hormone therapy, initiating and adjusting treatment, and holding informed, culturally aware patient conversations about benefits and risks.

One of the most common and least treated consequences of menopause. Covers the physiology behind GSM, its genitourinary and sexual health presentations, and why it remains so widely underdiagnosed, so clinicians recognize it rather than wait for patients to address it.

GSM assessment and treatment in practice: structured assessment, hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options including localized therapy, and patient conversation frameworks that help close the treatment gap in underdiagnosed populations.

Women can lose up to 20% of bone density in the five to seven years after menopause, yet routine DXA screening typically starts at 65. This course covers the physiology linking estrogen decline to osteopenia, osteoporosis, and sarcopenia, and the case for acting during that missed decade.

Bone health evaluation in practice: interpreting DXA results and FRAX® scores, evaluating secondary causes of bone loss, and applying evidence-based prevention and treatment options for postmenopausal patients, taught through clinical cases.

The changes patients notice first and ask about most. Covers how estrogen decline affects hair and skin, including female pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium, frontal fibrosing alopecia, and menopausal skin changes, and the physiology behind each presentation.

Differential diagnosis of menopausal hair and skin presentations, evidence-based treatment options, and an honest evaluation of commonly recommended hair and skin products against their marketing claims, with patient conversation frameworks for realistic expectations.

Foundations of Menopause:
Approximately 1.3 million women enter menopause each year in the United States, yet clinician preparedness to provide evidence-based menopause care remains inadequate across multiple healthcare disciplines. Although the number of Menopause Society Certified Practitioners continues to grow, it remains insufficient to meet patient demand, and formal menopause education is limited within graduate medical education and many health professional training programs. Consequently, clinicians in primary care, women’s health, internal medicine, family medicine, and other specialties frequently report limited confidence in recognizing menopause-related symptoms, performing appropriate clinical assessments, and developing individualized management plans. Observable practice gaps include underrecognition of menopause symptoms across multiple body systems, inconsistent use of validated assessment tools, uncertainty regarding appropriate diagnostic evaluation and laboratory testing, limited familiarity with hormonal and nonhormonal treatment options, and inadequate appreciation of the long-term cardiovascular, skeletal, cognitive, and genitourinary consequences of estrogen deficiency. These gaps may contribute to delayed diagnosis, undertreatment, and reduced quality of life for patients experiencing the menopause transition.

**Treatment of Menopause:
Menopause affects millions of women each year, yet many healthcare professionals report limited confidence in evaluating candidates for hormone therapy and managing common menopause-related conditions such as genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Although substantial evidence has emerged over the past two decades, persistent misconceptions regarding the risks and benefits of hormone therapy—particularly following the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) publication—continue to influence clinical decision-making. Updated guidance from professional societies and evolving regulatory recommendations have clarified many of these issues, creating an ongoing need for education that reflects current evidence. Observable practice gaps include inappropriate avoidance of hormone therapy because of outdated risk perceptions, inconsistent cardiovascular and breast cancer risk assessment, limited familiarity with contemporary hormone formulations and routes of administration, inadequate screening for GSM, and underutilization of effective hormonal and nonhormonal treatment options. Because GSM symptoms are frequently underreported by patients and not routinely assessed by clinicians, many women experience persistent symptoms that negatively affect quality of life and sexual health.

Long-Term Implications of Menopause:
**Approximately 1.3 million women enter menopause each year in the United States, yet many clinicians receive limited formal education on the long-term consequences of estrogen deficiency beyond the management of vasomotor symptoms. Although osteoporosis remains a leading cause of morbidity among postmenopausal women, opportunities for early risk assessment, preventive counseling, and timely intervention are frequently missed. Similarly, menopausal hair and skin changes are often dismissed as normal aging rather than recognized as clinically significant manifestations of hormonal change that can substantially affect quality of life and may benefit from evaluation and treatment. Observable practice gaps include inconsistent osteoporosis risk assessment, underutilization of validated screening tools such as DXA and FRAX, delayed initiation of preventive and therapeutic interventions, limited familiarity with current pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management strategies, and inadequate evaluation of hair and skin complaints through appropriate history, physical examination, differential diagnosis, and laboratory assessment. These gaps may delay diagnosis, increase fracture risk, and leave patients without appropriate counseling or treatment for symptoms that affect physical and psychosocial well-being.

After participating in the Foundations of Menopause activity, learners will be able to:
1. Describe the physiology of reproductive aging and the stages of the menopause transition, including associated clinical manifestations and long-term health implications.
2. Apply evidence-based approaches to the assessment and diagnosis of menopause using patient history, validated screening tools, differential diagnosis, and appropriate laboratory evaluation.
3. Evaluate hormonal, nonhormonal, lifestyle, and complementary treatment options to develop individualized management plans based on patient characteristics, preferences, and clinical needs.
4. Implement appropriate preventive care, longitudinal monitoring, and follow-up strategies to optimize health outcomes for women throughout the menopause continuum.

After participating in the Treatment of Menopause activity, learners will be able to:
1. Apply current evidence and clinical guideline recommendations to determine appropriate candidates for menopause hormone therapy through individualized risk-benefit assessment.
2. Evaluate hormonal and nonhormonal treatment options for menopause symptoms and genitourinary syndrome of menopause based on patient characteristics, preferences, and clinical presentation.
3. Incorporate evidence-based approaches to screening, diagnosis, monitoring, and long-term management of women receiving menopause treatment.
4. Utilize shared decision-making and patient-centered counseling to support informed treatment selection, improve symptom management, and optimize long-term health outcomes.

After participating in the Long-Term Implications of Menopause activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the long-term effects of estrogen deficiency on bone health, hair, and skin, and recognize patients at increased risk for menopause-related complications.
  2. Apply evidence-based approaches to osteoporosis screening, fracture risk assessment, diagnosis, and treatment using validated clinical tools and current guideline recommendations.
  3. Evaluate menopausal hair and skin changes through comprehensive clinical assessment, differential diagnosis, and appropriate laboratory evaluation to guide management and referral decisions.
  4. Develop individualized management plans that incorporate pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic, preventive, and longitudinal monitoring strategies to improve long-term health outcomes and quality of life for women after menopause.

This activity is suitable for Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physician Assistants, and other licensed healthcare professionals.

It is particularly relevant for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, pharmacists, and other licensed clinicians practicing in primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology, women’s health, and related specialties who provide care for women during midlife and the menopause transition.
